Our Future
His Holiness has designated the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural as "Kumbum West." We are to model our center on the great Kumbum Monastery in Amdo, Tibet as we created institutions of learning that will include the study of Language, Philosophy, Medicine, and the Arts. Specifically, we are commited to the following projects:
- We will continue our annual Culture Camp for Tibetan Children and our Cultural Camp for Mongolian Children. The objectives of these camps are to immerse Tibetan and Mongolian children in the values of their cultures and to provide opportunities for them to develop a sense of pride in their cultural heritages.
- The expansion of Buddhist teachings offered by resident and guest teachers, including seasonal retreats where guests may stay in Tibetan tents and Mongolian gers.
- Health and well-being instruction in Tibetan medicine and related astrological studies
- Cooking classes, yoga, and other health practices, such as walking the Nature Meditation Trail that surrounds our property.
- Translation Training Program
- Interfaith dialogue in discussions and events to continue the TCC’s association with those of many faiths
- International Student and Teacher Exchange to establish closer ties at Indiana University with Tibetan and Mongolian studies, translation, publications, and scholarly projects
- Fine Arts classes in Tibetan Buddhist and Mongolian disciplines, such as butter sculpture, thangka painting, and sand mandala construction
- Seasonal cultural festivals featuring traditional music, dance, drama, and arts & crafts programs.
